How to read your result

The big number is the largest single rebate path we found for your answers, not every program added together. In Greater Victoria there are two main paths. Homes heated with electric baseboards or an electric furnace can use the standard CleanBC Better Homes rebate, which BC Hydro pays: up to $4,000 for a whole-home system or $1,500 for a partial one. BC Hydro's "up to $4,000" is that same rebate, so we never count it twice.

The second path is the income-qualified Energy Savings Program. It pays the most to households switching from oil, gas or propane, and you must pre-register and get an eligibility code before the install. Oil, gas and propane homes in the south get $0 from the standard rebate, so for them this program is usually the only provincial money.

Each program in the list shows its status: Eligible means your answers meet the main rules, Check means it depends on something we did not ask, and Not eligible explains why. Saanich and Central Saanich offer 0% property-tax financing, which is a loan, not a rebate. BC Hydro's limited-time bonus appears only for installs from August 1 to October 31, 2026 and disappears from the checker after the November 30, 2026 application deadline.

Estimate only. Rebate rules change often. Confirm eligibility with the program, and ask your contractor to confirm the equipment is on the program's qualified list.

How we calculate this

  • Standard rebate: $4,000 whole home, $1,500 partial home, electrically heated homes only; homes over 1,200 sq ft need a multi-split or central system for whole home. CleanBC Better Homes requirements, verified October 7, 2026.
  • BC Hydro bonus: up to $1,000; complete, invoice and pay between August 1 and October 31, 2026; apply by November 30, 2026; while funds last. BC Hydro heat pump rebates, verified October 7, 2026.
  • Energy Savings Program amounts by fuel, system and level (invoices on or after July 6, 2026), plus the electrical service upgrade rebate for fossil fuel conversions. Energy Savings Program requirements, verified October 7, 2026.
  • Income limits by household size for Levels 1, 2 and 3. Energy Savings Program, verified October 7, 2026.
  • Saanich financing: up to $12,000 at 0%, repaid over 10 years on property tax. District of Saanich, verified October 7, 2026. Central Saanich financing: up to $12,000 at 0%. District of Central Saanich, verified October 7, 2026.
  • Federal Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program closed to new applicants on July 31, 2026. Natural Resources Canada, verified October 7, 2026.
  • We do not add the standard rebate and the Energy Savings Program together; the headline is the larger of the two paths.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get both the CleanBC rebate and the BC Hydro $4,000 rebate?

No. They are the same rebate. CleanBC Better Homes runs it and BC Hydro or FortisBC pays it, so an electrically heated home gets up to $4,000 once for a whole-home system, or $1,500 for a partial one.

Is there a heat pump rebate for oil or gas homes in Victoria?

Not from the standard program: oil, gas and propane offers are for northern BC only. In Greater Victoria those homes can apply to the income-qualified Energy Savings Program, which pays up to $13,000 for a central or 3-head system and up to $16,500 for a combined space and water heat pump at Level 1.

When does the BC Hydro heat pump bonus end?

BC Hydro says the install must be completed, invoiced and paid between August 1 and October 31, 2026, and the rebate application must be submitted by November 30, 2026. Funding is first come, first served while funds last.

Do I need to apply before the heat pump is installed?

For the income-qualified Energy Savings Program, yes. You pre-register, get an eligibility code that is valid for 3 months, and a Registered Contractor does the work and claims the rebate. The standard rebate is applied for within 6 months of the invoice date.

Is the federal oil to heat pump grant still open?

No. Natural Resources Canada says July 31, 2026 was the last day to apply to the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program, and the Canada Greener Homes Grant is closed.
